Systems thinking is an aid to reviewing the whole of a complex socio-technical problem. It employs a variety of techniques to:
- Sense what the problem is.
- Interpret and understand all the issues involved.
- Evaluate the options of what could be done about it.
- What the consequences may be and whether they are desirable or unintended and counter-productive.
- Act on these decisions.
It can be used as a “front end” analysis to arrive at a clearer formulation of the problem. In such work it can help isolate myths and identify vested interests.
